I tried Kjaer Weis’ foundation when it first debuted around 2013 when the darkest shade they offered at the time was Velvety. Velvety is described as a shade “created for medium dark to dark skin with golden or olive undertones”.
Translation: Too light for me.
But at the time I was into using shades that were way lighter than I am to highlight underneath my eyes when the highlighting and contouring craze was everywhere. But I’m completely over that now and am now into a more natural skin-like finish.
So, naturally I gravitate towards foundations and concealers that match my skin tone, so I’m really glad that Kjaer Weis has extended their shade range and I hope they continue to do so in the near future.
Kjaer Weis’ Cream Foundation ($68, 7.5g compact | $40, 7.5g refill) is described as a “Creamy, weightless texture that blends easily for a semi-matte finish.” The shades I chose are Flawless which is described as a color suitable “For deep colored skin with reddish undertones” and Perfection which is suitable “For deep colored skin with neutral undertones”.
Flawless is the perfect shade for me and has the perfect amount of red to it that mimics my skin tone exactly. Perfection is a bit darker on me but would work pretty great after I spend some more days out in the sun perhaps.
When I first tried this foundation back in 2013 I have to
admit that I was not a fan of it because I found that it was too stiff, drying,
and appeared chalky on my then very dry skin. It also accentuated all of my dry
patches which is a no-no for me. Although this foundation is a cream it did not
do my dry skin any justice. No matter how much I moisturized, spritzed, and
prepped my skin prior to application it didn’t work out. However, I decided to
revisit this foundation since my skin type has done a complete 180 and is now
on the extremely oilier side and it has worked really well for me on
this second go around.
Since I no longer have a problem with dryness this foundation is a lot easier to apply as opposed to my previous experience with it where I felt that I had trouble blending the foundation into my skin.
This foundation offers buildable coverage that I am able to build up enough to cover my hyperpigmentation scars entirely, without it appearing cakey. The way this foundation melts into the skin, instead of just sitting on top of the skin, is phenomenal.
The finish is more on the dewy side but is not greasy looking but appears how healthy skin should. I prefer a more matte look so I have been pairing this foundation with RMS Beauty’s Tinted Un Powder Up in shade 3-4. Seeing as when I was dry I was like give me all the dewy you got, I now can’t stand the sight of anything that resembles oil in any way or out come my blotting papers so fast. Is this only me?
Some other things I’d like to note about this foundation that I noticed after trying it out for the past couple of months is that the thing that I initially did not like about this foundation has been what makes it work so great for me now since my skin type has changed. The staying power for this foundation is quite amazing and I believe this is due to its stiff formula which works in my favor now. This foundation is super long-lasting and does not budge even on scorching hot summer days and nights. It is a really comfortable wear and it is so light on the skin you will begin to forget you are even wearing it.
I get a lot of compliments on how “flawless” my makeup looks when I wear this foundation along with a light setting powder. I love that it doesn’t appear heavy or cakey yet still functions the way a foundation should. I’ve found that really light formulas are often so sheer that you might as well just skip them altogether, yet this is a really nice weightless foundation that can still be built up enough to provide coverage that covers really dark marks. Score!
Have any of you tried this? And for those of you who are on the drier side and would like to test this out for yourself, The Detox Market offers a sample program that would allow you to test out whether or not this would work out for your skin type.

I know the struggle!! I experienced the same thing in the beginning of my clean beauty journey, so I am happy to help. Stay tuned though, I have many more swatches dropping soon for my melanin ladies.
Thank you for searching these! I was convinced these wouldn’t work for me because clean beauty rarely goes up to my skintone. But I think one of these shades would work!
