RMS Beauty’s “Un” Cover Up is a concealer I tried very early on in my switch to natural makeup years ago. It’s also another one of the concealers I used on a daily basis that was way too light for my liking now.
This was when the darkest shade they had at the time was #44.
I was all like… yes I’m totally highlighting my under-eye area. This is how it’s done! While at the same time attempting to tone the brightness down with tinted setting powders cause um… NO.
Thankfully, the brand has expanded their shade range since then and this is pretty exciting because I am so glad that we are getting past a time where the darkest shade available is only suitable for someone with light olive skin, leaving the rest of us with no other options. #inclusivityplease!
RMS Beauty’s Un Cover Up is described as a “lightweight foundation and concealer for the under-eye area and face. Formulated to reveal and enhance healthier looking skin…not just cover it up. Use as a foundation or a light concealer as it visibly melts into the skin while covering imperfections and redness. Provides even coverage for flawless looking skin that will never look heavy or dry. Moisturizes and heals, resulting in a beautiful second skin. Completely lightweight and hydrating to the skin, the “un” cover-up will reveal more youthful and radiant skin. Minimizes the appearance of pores and rejuvenates the skin.”
The shade descriptions provided by the brands website for their darkest shades are:
66: A golden sienna.
77: A deep sienna.
88: A rich auburn.
99: A rich light mahogany.
111: A deep mahogany chocolate.
122: A deep espresso chocolate.
So…I get extremely excited when I find natural makeup that actually matches my skin tone because years ago this was not the case, and I had to do lots of maneuvering to be able to work with what was offered at the time if I wanted to keep things clean.
I can’t lie, blogging my experience back in 2012 while transitioning to natural makeup may have been my only motivation to keep going after countless disappointments with not only the shade offerings at the time but with many of the brands poor attempts at product descriptions.
I am however, super happy to proclaim from the highest of rooftops that shade #88 is my true shade and I can use #77 for a tiny bit of highlighting and brightness. *claps enthusiastically* It’s always nice to have options and I can now add these shades to my non-toxic arsenal of makeup that truly works for me.
We’ve come quite a long way people!
For some background on my complexion, I have an undertone that leans red. #88 has a red undertone, while #66 is much warmer with a yellow undertone, and #77 has more of a slight peachy undertone.
I’ve always loved how this concealer blends so effortlessly and how it’s buttery texture practically melts into the skin. It doesn’t just sit on top of the skin giving that textured look that some complexion products tend to have.
It is a super creamy and non-drying formula. It can be used for light concealing or as an all over foundation with a bit more coverage. It covers active breakouts and dark marks well and does not appear too heavy on the skin. It has a dewy finish and pairs really well with RMS Beauty’s setting powder, Un Powder Up, for a matte finish which I prefer.
I find that this concealer is also pretty long-wearing when set with a powder and I do not get any oilier than I do on a typical day while wearing this. This was a fear of mine because of all of the oils in this product. I was also nervous about getting milia due to the coconut oil in this product, yet I have not experienced this after wearing this for months now.
I do experience some creasing right underneath my lash line where I have some fine lines but this is something I expect with just about any product I place in this area. However, using ILIA Beauty’s Priming Serum has helped with this.
I use this concealer on days when I do not feel like wearing much makeup. It’s perfect for a no-makeup makeup look and is great for just covering up dark circles and dark marks and then being out the door. I wasn’t able to use it as a true concealer until now so it is pretty exciting that I can.
See below for some swatches of not only shades #66, #77, and #88 but also swatches of the more deeper shades #99, #111, and #122.
RMS Beauty has also recently introduced a cream foundation to the market that I will be reviewing soon so definitely stay tuned for that. It will be interesting to compare the concealer to its corresponding shade in the foundation too…
